2012 Lotus Esprit Sport car - Review

Lotus has been a hot topic in the news ever since their astounding resurgence into the sports-car world. The company has decided to move its racing ambitions further along as it has unveiled the Evora Enduro GT Concept car at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. It was interesting to learn that last year the company had struck a deal with Renault to back its racing team and help with development. Lotus joining F1 racing may be more than a few years off, but this company clearly has big plans. After being rather lethargic during the 1990’s and almost fading away into the night with the Esprit dying out – the company has made drastic changes behind its fearless new leader and is poised to offer several new models within the coming years. With such an emphasis on road-going performance, it was only a matter of time before a racing car was developed.

Have you noticed that everyone is talking about The Lotus Esprit 2012 Concept? Despite Lotus cars themselves not divulging any information, everyone is still speculating about when the new Lotus Esprit might be launched and what engine Lotus will use in the New Lotus Esprit. But no one really knows for sure. But one thing is certain, everyone is excited at the prospect of a new Lotus Esprit - possible in 2012.
Mixing this idea with the round, curved features at the front-end of the Evora and Elise, the artist's drawing shows an Esprit that looks like it belongs in the current Lotus lineup. Drawing off one of the first released shots of the Evora, the artist widened out the front end, adding a larger grille, while extending the height of the fenders. Turn signals are integrated into the angular side mirrors, matching a more defined style on the side panels. The boot is longer, but the artist kept the wheels right at the very end of the car. This drawing also features a unique, dual-spoke light-weight wheel.

There’s a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we’ve managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist.”

Dany Bahar continued in his speech “Not only does the Esprit look incredible but it has the performance to match. We’ve stuck to the Lotus core values of performance through lightweight and teamed them with future technology and exceptional engineering to ensure that the Esprit will be the leader of the pack. The design is aggressive, you have to see it to appreciate how low and wide the proportions are but it still retains a level of dignity, of class and most of all exclusivity. I’m very proud of this car.”
