2012 Lamborghini Jota - Preview and Drive
First Look 2012 Lamborghini Jota
With the Lamborghini Murcielago nearing the end of its exotic production run, the Italian automaker is already underway with plans to replace the current Murcielago with a new super car. Current rumors are saying that it will be called the Jota and should be launched sometime in 2012.
In accordance with traditional Lamborghini nomenclature, Ferrucho liked to name his creations after infamous fighting bulls. However, there is no connection to the ru
mored Jota name, but the name was used on a very select run of Miuras and Diablos that underwent a few race inspired upgrades. This latest rendering gives us a new idea as to what the upcoming super car might look like. What we do know is that the 2012 Jota will feature a host of lightweight aluminum body parts, making it much lighter than its predecessor and will be powered by a brand new V12 producing around 700 HP.
Sources indicate that this new Lambo will weight less than 1,500 kg which will probably result in a breathtaking acceleration. Since the power to weight ratio will be in the region of 470 HP per 1,000 kg the car will probably accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds.
The 2012 Lamborghini Jota Murcielago won’t feature a DSG transmission because it would be too complex and too expensive to engineer but it will come with a sequential seven speed manual with a seven speed paddle shift as standard.
The driver’s position in the interior will no longer be offset towards the center of the car because Lamborghini has been able to start with a clean sheet design and probably they won’t make any compromises to work around inside the car.
What we know so far
Judging by the size of the prototype, the Jota will retain the Murcielago’s overall size and shape. However, expect the Jota to be lighter and more powerful that the outgoing Murcielago, which should translate to some pretty fantastic performance figures.
Lamborghini CEO, Stephen Winkelmann, releases brand manifesto
Lamborghini stands for extreme and uncompromising supersportscars of the best Italian tradition. Tradition as a value however, lives at Lamborghini alongside innovation.
Also the rear overhang is a lot bigger than on the Gallardo, this could be evidence of a big V12 engine mounted longitudinally like on the Murciélago, also note two flat but very wide exhaust outlets in the middle ... these actually look like the ones seen on the Estoque concept four door. A close look at the taillights could reveal Reventòn Y-style LEDs again being used, but that's easy, they've been used on all recent models so it's no surprise they will be featured on an all new flagship in 2012 too.
My best guess would be this is the front of a Gallardo body mounted on a modified Murciélago chassis with the rear of a Reventòn stuck to it because the V12 engine is too large to fit completely inside a Gallardo bodywork and the rear track would be too wide to get tucked underneath a regular Gallardo body shell ... so I really doubt this car could even resemble the styling we'll see on the Murciélago successor when it is shown to the public in 2012 ... all we can do is wait, but I'm sure it will be a stunning exotic that will put it's competitors in the shadow once again ... but the car in these shots is merely a hybrid Gallardo/Reventòn bodywork probably over a new style chassis/drive train/engine combination to allow testing and further development of the upcoming Murciélago successor in moderate secrecy.
